While peter had very specific requirements for the kitchen design, josee had a strong desire for modern finishes for the interiors. during this gut renovation, we removed many interior walls and added new windows to open up the interior spaces and enhance the connection to the outdoors. Josee, her husband peter (a restauranteur) and their daughter love the setting of their house in rural vermont, but found the interiors to be dated, cramped and inefficient. Thanks josee, we love to hear from our happy clients! I can't say enough positive about working with you two from start to finish." "I LOVE OUR HOUSE.JUST LOVE EVERYTHING ABOUT IT. The result is a small, efficient and distinctive house located on what was one of the few vacant lots remaining in burlington. ![]() as a metalsmith and artist himself, kirk has continued to cultivate this early exposure to design and when it came time to build his own house here in vermont, kirk knew he wanted something that spoke to this modern aesthetic. Our client for this house grew up in austin, texas, surrounded by contemporary architecture and a thriving art scene. careful detailing throughout ensured cost-efficient construction while enhancing the overall design intent. the existing garage was transformed into living space with the installation of a glass and aluminum overhead door and dubbed the “motorcycle cafe” by our clients as a way of connecting to the street life of the neighborhood. On the first floor, interior partition walls were removed to create an open-plan series of living spaces that create a feeling of spaciousness and allow for views through the house. finally, the entire project team (owners, architects and builders) were committed to creating an energy-efficient house. fundamental to this was a desire to maximize the western (lake) exposure and to provide as much natural light as possible to the interior spaces. the design intent for the renovation was to provide more open and modern living spaces with improved connections to the outdoors. While our clients initially rented this house, when the opportunity to purchase came around they jumped at the chance to make this former camp into a modern and energy-efficient structure.
